‘Marry outside your tribe’ – Peller warns Yoruba, Igbo people against marrying within their tribes

‘Marry outside your tribe’ – Peller warns Yoruba, Igbo people against marrying within their tribes

Popular Nigerian streamer Peller has sparked reactions after advising Yoruba and Igbo people against marrying within their respective ethnic groups, arguing that intertribal marriages offer a different experience.

Speaking in a recent statement, Peller claimed that people from the same ethnic group often understand each other too well, leaving little room for surprises in their relationships.

“If you are a Yoruba and want to marry a Yoruba in 2026, bro, your life is finish. And if you are Igbo, you want to marry Igbo, your life is finish,” he said.

Explaining his position, the entertainer argued that partners from the same ethnic background already share similar cultural knowledge and ways of thinking.

“Wetin me, I be Yoruba, you be Yoruba. Wetin I know for Yoruba, you know am. And I go just let you know, bro, where I get sense reach for Yoruba, you get sense reach there. You fit even do pass me,” he stated.

Peller also cited his preference for a Benin woman as an example, insisting that he would rather marry outside his ethnic group.

“Me, wey go marry my Benin girl, na no know say I get wetin I dey think. I no fit marry my Yoruba girl, God forbid,” he added.

The streamer further maintained that even a financial incentive would not convince him to marry a Yoruba woman.

“If dem tell us say I pay now, you can plus one, bro, I no go still even marry my Yoruba girl. Na fact I dey tell you,” he said.

Using his parents' marriage as another example, Peller noted that both his father and mother are Yoruba before suggesting that young people should consider relationships across ethnic lines.

“My daddy is a Yoruba, my mommy is a Yoruba. See my life outside o,” he remarked.

He concluded by urging young people to take his advice seriously despite his age, maintaining that his position was based on what he considered a lesson from real-life experience.
